Hi, my name is Nicky and I’m addicted to coffee.
I’ve given up, or at least severely reduced, a lot of things that are bad for me over the last few years. I don’t really eat sugar or animal products, I don’t smoke, I drink alcohol sparingly and I try pretty hard to eat very few processed foods (I struggle with chips though, just so good!) but I just can’t cut the coffee. I try to reduce it fairly often and sometimes I succeed for a while but it just doesn’t last very long.
The thing is it’s not even the coffee itself I’m so attached too. It’s the ritual! It’s waking up and having a lovely hot drink, it’s the sitting in a cafe with my hands around a hot mug. I can’t resist! Honestly, my favourite way to pass a few hours is to chill out with a book, or writing a blog post, in a cafe with a hot drink. So absolutely peaceful.
I could replace the coffee with another hot drink but chai lattes and hot chocolates at most cafes are filled with sugar and I just hate paying $5 for a cup of tea. Decaf also seems all kinds of wrong, it’s just heavily processed coffee, surely it’s better for you in its caffeinated form?
Some argue coffee is fine and can be drunk as a healthy part of your diet, others argue the opposite. I think for now, I’ll keep trying to limit my intake but I don’t think I could ever see it go for good.
What are your thoughts? Are you for or against coffee? Are you an addict like me?
Thanks for reading!
