|Maybelline – Baby Lips Pink Glow, Mixed Berry Flavour in Pink Blast – $1.97 (RRP $3.95)|
Firstly, how long is this name!!! So complicated. Secondly, these are pretty cheap to start off with, but they are half price at Priceline at the moment. I didn’t unfortunately buy this at half price, but I might be back to buy some others in the same range.
My first impression is that the packaging is really cute and kitschy. It makes me nostalgic of my childhood! Before reading the packaging I was absolutely sure they had to contain Vaseline as they were so cheap! They don’t, which is good, but the main ingredient is polybutene. Doing a quick google search, I can’t find much except that it’s a polymer product; aka it’s man made. There’s not much research into what this does, but as I’m a fan of the organic and natural, this immediently makes me suspect. My personal opinion (therefore not certified, researched or a fact, but a guess) is that it is probably very similar to vaseline and just protects the lips and not moisturises much. Most ingredients in this product aren’t recognisable, but there is caster seed oil and shea butter; if far down the ingredient list, so not all that bad.
All in all, I do like this product and it has found its way into my waitressing apron. Baby Lips most awesome feature is the tint. It’s a “colour-blooming technology” that means it reacts with your lips to give them a unique colour. Why it’s so perfect is that as a waitress, yes, you do still want nourishment, but really you want an instant and lasting way to keep your lips from feeling dry and horrible. I also keep my Body Shop Vitamin E Lip Care on with me incase I really need the nourishment. Most importantly it gives you a lovely colour! It’s a definite your-lips-but-better colour and on me it makes my lips noticeably deeper in colour that compliments any make up look. It’s also not sticky like a lip gloss and doesn’t need constant checking like a lipstick. Perfect when you need a hint of colour, quickly and fuss free.
I like the product, don’t love it and still not sure if I really want to purchase another. And if I did, it is only because they are so cheap. If I could give Maybelline a word of advice, I’d pay more for the product if they used more natural ingredients and made them more nourishing and not so fake. Love the concept and is perfect for jobs like waitressing where you don’t have the luxury of being able to check on your make up during your shift. It is a product I like but you could probably use a subtle lip stain at the start of the shift and apply a good lip balm throughout and get the same result.
Thanks for reading!
