Probably TMI, but I recently got the Implanon (the birth control implant) out of my arm and already I can feel my hormones raging out of control which means I’ve been getting super moody and emotional. Because of this, I have had some really bad days where I feel like nothing will ever go right and life is awful. So, I wanted to write a little post about the 11 things that cheer me up when I’m down.
1. My Husband
The number one thing that cheers me up when I’m down is a cuddle from my amazing husband Jamie. He always tries to just make me laugh and look after me and help me feel better. He’s just such a silly, happy person that it’s hard not to be cheered up by him.
2. My Cat
Tessa is the cutest cat in the world, and even though she’s not the most cuddly or friendly cat, it’s just so reassuring to have her around and get even the quickest of cuddles from her.
3. A Hot Drink
I feel like theres nothing more reassuring than having a coffee or tea or chai latte in hand. Supposedly having a hot drink in your hand mimics having someone hold your hand because of the warmth and that’s why it’s so calming.
I love plopping down on the couch and just watching some of my fav youtubers. I only watch positive people so it’s so nice having such happy, positive people “talking” to you. It’s also helpful to see them have their own moments, as you realise it’s not just you who struggles sometimes. The Saccone-Joly’s never fail to make me feel better!
I love to cook and I enjoy experimenting with new recipes. Some days I just can’t be bothered but I find it relaxing to just get stuck into preparing something delicious. I think as well that having a nutritious and healthy meal can also help make me feel better as I know I’ve done something beneficial for myself.
6. Playing with my Makeup
If I am staying in I will pretty much never put on makeup, but sometimes it’s fun to just try something new, or try out a look I’m unsure about and just experiment. Otherwise if I do have to go out and I’m just feeling grumpy I’ll try to get ready as early as I can so I can just sit down as spend as long as I want playing around with my makeup.
7. Colouring In
This is fairly new one to me but it’s so calming and relaxing to just colour in and let loose some creative juices. You can find some beautiful adult colouring books in a lot of different bookshops these days!
I love just sitting down and distracting myself with writing a blog post. I love being able to focus on something that I love and feel passionate about and stop focusing on the things that I’m feeling unhappy about.
I have gotten to the point in my life that I love to take a walk, or do yoga, or go for a swim or any kind of exercise. And I find it really lets off any frustration and helps to give you back some energy.
10. Taking Myself Out
If I’m feeling quite overwhelmed, I love to just take myself out to a coffee shop or for breakfast. I take either my laptop or my kindle or whatever and just relax. I love to people watch and just not have to deal with anyone.
11. Chatting to a Bestie
Now, a lot of the time when I’m being a cranky pants, I just want to be alone. Sometimes though you just need a rant. Having a chat to a bestie is always fun and you’ll usually end up having a laugh or chatting away about other interests anyway and before you know it your feeling much better.
Thanks for reading and I hope you guys are all feeling happy!
