So where we left off from the last contiki post we had left Turkey and sailed overnight to Santori, our first stop in the Greek Islands. Santorini is such a beautiful island, but very touristy. We drove from the port to Megalochori, a little village on the island. It was very cute and it was nice to see a part of the island that doesn’t experience as much tourist activity.
After Megalochori, we travelled over to Oia which is probably the most beautiful part of the island, we spent most of our time there just taking photos. It was super lovely just wondering around the little town and looking out over the white buildings to the ocean.
The next four photos are of this adorable little bookshop. It’s quite a unique little shop and it has a beautiful aesthetic. Unfortunately though, the rent-a-cat service is fake! However, there was a little cuddly cat inside that we had a quick play with.
After Oia we did go on to Fira, the capital city of Santorini. I really like Fira and it was almost as beautiful as Oia, but not quite. It was stinking hot that day and I think we are all a little bit over the heat by the time we got there. So after a little wander around we settled into this beautiful bar with the most amazing view!
I wish I could remember the name of this place because I highly recommend it! The team there were so lovely and made us one of the most amazing cocktails I’ve ever had. It was a custom kind of mango, lime, whisky thing (I think), my memory is shocking but it was incredible! We ended up staying here pretty much all afternoon, it was just so beautiful! Take a look at the photos below as this is the view from the balcony!
The donkeys are interesting and I’m not sure how I feel about it all as part of me feels really bad for them, but they are beautiful and it was interesting seeing them walking around the town.
Fira was the last town we saw that day and so we headed back to the ship by cable car. On the ship it was largely the same routine every night, cocktails and card games. I would love to go back to Santorini one day to spend a few nights there and just explore and relax. The architecture is so beautiful with all the white and cream houses and the sea is just such a magnificent colour. I recommend a visit, however it is a very popular tourist spot so is full of foreigners and can be expensive.
What’s your favourite part of Santorini if you’ve been?
