One. Waste of time.
I’m not even lying when I say that I would spend hours of my day scrolling through my timeline and watching ‘funny’ videos that I don’t even find funny. I’m not trying to get all high and mighty, I’ve still got a phone addiction with Instagram being my drug of choice. However, I didn’t enjoy my Facebook scrolls, not like I enjoy the Instagram scrolls, and I wanted to be more productive.
I’m guilty of being an envious person and seeing peoples holiday photos and laughing group photos from the latest hot bar whilst I’m sat at home with my messy bun, cup of Earl Grey and Doctor Who on the TV just made me feel a little inadequate. But, I love watching nerdy tv shows with cups of tea looking like a slob and I don’t always want to be out in an uncomfortable outfit, getting sloppy drunk and spending my money. I have travelled a fair amount already and would like to travel more, but I know I’ll get there again so it’s silly to compare my experiences with anyone else’s. I feel like because Facebook is so personal, it’s easy to get caught up with who has a better job and who’s “doing more” with their life.
Three. Stupid notifications.
Am I the only one who hates being notified that Sally (who I haven’t spoken to in 5 years) from high school is having her birthday, so no I don’t really want to send her a message. Nor do I really care that there’s an event on near me. I don’t really care either that 6 years ago I posted a status that I got rained on when I was walking home. It might sound pessimistic but I don’t want to reminisce on the past, I want to focus on the future. I also want to focus on the present. I don’t want a ba-ding when I’m out for coffee, interrupting a conversation with a friend. Especially when it’s something really uninteresting. I also hate the little red notification bubble on apps, so I have to check the notification so I can get rid of the bubble! But then I get stuck scrolling through the news feed and comparing myself to others.
So cya Facebook, I haven’t missed you. I’ll keep my account so I can still keep in touch with those people that live on the other side of the world but I’m done with the scrolling. Also as a bonus, it’s really nice not having people opinions shoved in my face too!
How do you feel about Facebook? Could you give it up?
